University of Notre Dame
Sitting down with staff writers from the University of Notre Dame Magazine was a special moment for me – as I am a proud ND alum. The discussion provided a chance to explore the worrisome trends seen in youth mental health since 2000 – and equally importantly, investigate the concept of embedded preventive mental health and what that looks like in a classroom.

EdTech Magazine
While at FETC, I enjoyed the opportunity to chat with a dynamic writer for EdTech Magazine. We discussed the action items that demonstrated efficacy and improved work balance in healthcare – and ultimately, how they crossover and can be used in education.

Sonderly
Based in Toronto, Sonderly serves as leading training platform for North American educators when it comes to issues regarding autism, neurodivergence, and behavior/mental health challenges. It was a pleasure to serve as a content expert – bringing the perspective of a former physician and classroom teacher as we record this webcast for Canadian educators.

Tech and Learning – School Mental Health Crisis
The escalating demands placed upon educators has led to overwhelming exhaustion and worrisome attrition rates. Sadly, this is not a transient phenomenon, but has been building since the early 2000s. Business as usual will not be enough. It's critical to make thoughtful change.

The Impact of Embedded Preventive Mental Health:
Despite the best intention of school districts and educators, the day to day implementation of social emotional learning is often a "one off" experience. Important topics regarding resilience, mental health, and peer pressure are sandwiched into low yield assemblies or bland videos in the middle of English class. This creates an awkward setting and devalues the importance of the topic. Let's do something different. Does an evidence-based curriculum, written to support common vulnerabilities and mental health strain in secondary students, demonstrate a positive and measurable impact upon student mental health metrics?
UPDATE (Feb 2023): The study is completed and is under review for publication in a clinical journal. More to follow!
